San Gervasio was a great stop during our tour of Cozumel and offered a fascinating look into the island’s history and Mayan culture. What truly made the experience exceptional, however, was our guide, Trisha. Trisha was absolutely outstanding. Her knowledge of the history, culture, and significance of the site was impressive, and she shared it in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. She was incredibly patient, kind, and genuinely enthusiastic about answering every question we had. At no point did we feel rushed. She took the time to make sure we understood what we were seeing and brought the ruins to life with stories and historical context. Her passion for the site and for educating visitors really showed, and she was easily the highlight of our visit. The site also had water, snacks, and souvenirs available for purchase, which was convenient. Some of the sales areas felt a little touristy and somewhat scammy, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. One piece of advice: go early in the morning if possible. It gets very hot as the day goes on, and the earlier temperatures make exploring much more enjoyable. Overall, San Gervasio is worth visiting, and if you have the opportunity to tour with Trisha, don’t hesitate. She turned a good experience into a memorable one, and we left with a much deeper appreciation for Cozumel’s history and culture because of her.

These were smaller ruins but we thought they were pretty cool and exciting history and worth the visit. We ended up deciding to do our own tour in under an hour and skipped the longer guided tour. There were lots of iguanas, plus we saw a coati!

This is a smaller archeological site. We really enjoyed how spaced out it was and there was no crowds. There were plenty of iguanas, Coatis, butterflies and birds. We spent most of our time watching the wildlife. We did find it a bit pricey for what it is. You pay one fee which is what the parking attendant tells you that it costs to get in. Then… boom. You get hit with another one down the path. All in all it was a nice way to spend a couple hours.

My boyfriend and I visited here recently and had a blast! Entry was 13.50 per person I think, around there, but I highly recommend paying the $40 for a tour guide. If you do, ask for Pedro! He pointed out a ton we would have missed if we had gone on our own, including close ups of original Mayan painting and carving, and where animals have unearthered pottery fragments. His English was incredibly fluent, and being Mayan himself he also taught us how to say nice to meet you! He was very knowledgeable about the history of the park, and Mayan history and religion in general. I like to ask a lot of questions, and he always knew the answer, and even recommended relevant reading material. The natural beauty of the park is just as special as the monuments. We especially loved the iguanas with the coloration to match the rocks! I would advise you to show up early if you really want to take your time to see everything and fully appreciate it. You could easily spend a couple hours here and still want to come back!

Loved this little tour through a Mayan village. Nowhere close in magnitude to the big names - Chichen Itza, or Xunantunich in Belize, but it is conveniently located about half hour from the cruise pier and is enough to give you a feel of history. Will maintained. Somewhat too well maintained in places - they went overboard with restoration and some areas clearly show modern work as the restoration did not match colors and texture of the cement. Use ChatGPT as your guide, and supplement with the plaques in front of each of the exhibits, and you’ll have access to plenty of information. The guides take some liberties with facts - claiming the king stood here and there (this place had no royalty presence).
