It’s a really odd place, and the entrance fee feels pretty steep for what you get. There’s a short trail with a tower to climb with a view of the mangroves and ocean. There’s a lighthouse to climb, pretty much same view as the lookout. There’s a very basic naval museum, a short (250 meters) trail to another lookout (this one was shorter) and a small, dark cenote with a warning of crocodiles. The highlight was the 20 minute boat ride where we saw a crocodile and learned a little about the history of the region from a guide who spoke English and Spanish. We saw lizards turtles and a few birds but not much else. The mosquitos are very active which we expected but still unpleasant. We love hiking and wildlife viewing and honestly it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Constant hawking and a stop at their overpriced restaurant also made us feel uncomfortable.

The road is totally doable with a normal small car - not even an issue. $23 per adult and 2 year old was free. Saw 2 🐊 crocodiles right next to the bridge when you first come in. Cool tower to climb up. Lighthouse was fun to climb. The boat tour was really cool the crocs came right to the boat. The beach was also nice and is just across the road from where the boat was at. At the beach they have toilets, a good dressing room, shower. Lots of lounge chairs options. Didnt try the food at the restaurant but appreciated a cold coke!

This park is amazing well worth the money. If you’re staying at an all inclusive anywhere on the island it’s definitely worth coming here. There are many different things to do and animals to see (season depending). You’re not guaranteed to see any crocodiles but we were very lucky and ended up seeing 6. The lighthouse has an amazing view and there is a small museum connected to it. We were told if you don’t rent a car or a taxi you are able to walk the park but after renting a car we would not recommend attempting to walk as the road you drive inside the park is very long and not shaded. When renting a car the rental car companies will let you know you don’t need an all terrain vehicle and they were right we had a Mitsubishi mirage and it didn’t struggle at all just a few pot holes in the road.

This park is beautiful! We saw so many crocodiles, coati, pygmy raccoons, iguanas, a turtle, and many beautiful birds. The little catamaran tour was excellent - it was maybe 30 minutes, and you are in a covered boat, so the sun is not beating down on you! We saw many crocodiles and the guide was very funny and really knew his stuff. The tours happened daily at 12, 1, and 2. There are a few little beach clubs once you get all the way inside of the park - we enjoyed the beach here so much that we came back a second time. The water is very salty and warm so you float nicely, and the beaches were pristine. Other beachy areas on the island have rock bottoms, but the beach here had a soft, sandy bottom. The drive to get here is beautiful if you drive along the east side of the island! You go right along the water, and there is plenty to see. The drive along the West side of the island is less impressive (you're not driving along the coast). Once you get into the park, the "bumpy" road everyone talks about begins. It is not nearly as bad as we anticipated. We had an SUV and it's very easy to just drive slowly and avoid the potholes. We didn't hit any potholes in either direction on both trips we made to the park - I definitely recommend having an SUV though! The drive inside the park is beautiful, and you need to drive slowly anyway. Critters everywhere. You have to pay $23 USD per person to get in, and it's cash only. We pre-paid online, but there is no WiFi or even basic cell service for miles around the entry gate, so we paid a second time in cash because we could not get the email up to show them (no big deal, our fault, considered it a donation to the park). You absolutely have to know basic Spanish to communicate with the folks at the gated entry. When we went back a few days later, we were prepared with our prepaid entry that we could not use the first time, but they said the email screenshots didn't have enough information and they considered them invalid. So we had to pay a third time, this time in cash. The TL;DR is this: do not prepay online, they won't accept it and you will waste money. Just pay IN CASH when you get there.

Punta Sur Eco-Park is well worth the bumpy ride. We went when Il Norte was making rough waves on the west side of the island. The crystal clear water and beach are like paradise. We saw one alligator and several water birds on the boat ride on the lagoon. The view from the lighthouse was one of the highlights. We are so glad that we are in Cozumel and grateful for its preservation of its natural beauty.
