Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán is truly one of the most beautiful and impressive places to visit in Oaxaca. The architecture is absolutely stunning, with a beautiful historic stone façade that looks elegant and grand from the outside. The moment you step inside, the magnificent Baroque interior, intricate golden decorations, detailed ceilings, and ornate chapels make the experience even more special. The contrast between the relatively understated exterior and the richly decorated interior is fascinating. The atmosphere inside feels peaceful, spiritual, and almost timeless, making it a wonderful place to appreciate both history and art. The outdoor area is equally charming, with the beautiful church façade, spacious surroundings, and lovely views that make it a great spot to walk around, admire the architecture, and take photographs. The entire setting reflects Oaxaca’s rich cultural heritage and historic charm. Whether you appreciate architecture, history, photography, or simply enjoy exploring beautiful places, this is definitely a must-visit landmark in Oaxaca.

This is an example of how the Catholic Church exploited indigenous people of Oaxaca. It is a magnificent church adorned with a wealth of precious metals extracted from regional and colonial Mexican mines. The interior features over 60,000 sheets of 23.5- to 24-carat gold leaf applied during the height of the New Spanish Baroque period.

This cathedral is beautiful. The amount of detail that is put in to the craftsmanship on the walls on the ceilings on the pillars. It is just like how they are in Europe. There’s a lot of history here. I would encourage you to have a local tell you about all the things that are on the wall in the banners that are hanging up.

The temple itself was pretty. And it's free of charge to enter. But its grounds were closed. And it was surrounded by shopping booths.

One of the most important collection of buildings in all of Mexico. Historically: The Dominican Capital of Oaxaca. Architecturally: The Culmination of the Dominican Vision. Spiritually: A Theater of Salvation. Architecture as pedagogy — the building itself is intended to teach, through gold, sculpture, iconography, retablos, vaults, and chapels — all forming a comprehensive visual narrative of the Christian cosmos. Seen this way, Santo Domingo is not merely decorative. It is a machine for contemplation. Along with the adjacent cultural museum, a must-see destination for understanding Mexican civilization.

One of those "must" stops in San Cris. The outside is stunning and marvelous. The inside takes your breath away because it is all covered on gold. Next to it is the traditional hand crafts made from indigenous people of the region, so all of you see is worth the price and it's value in culture.

Nice church from the outside. Not always open and the way towards the church... mind your wallet, you will spent money on the souvenir market 🤣🤣 we went back twice and everytime my wallet was emptier than when I went
