The town has a lively atmosphere, friendly people, and a great local feel. The carnitas absolutely lived up to the hype—fresh, flavorful, and some of the best I have ever had. There are plenty of local shops to explore, making it a fun place to spend a few hours. If you are visiting Morelia, make time for Quiroga. It is well worth the trip.

People in Patzcuaro keep everything very clean. The plaza is not an exception! Its a beautiful place to spend some time!

Plaza Vasco de Quiroga is the main square of Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, and is named in honor of Bishop Vasco de Quiroga, one of the most important figures in the region’s colonial history. Appointed the first bishop of Michoacán in the 16th century, Vasco de Quiroga was known for his strong advocacy for Indigenous communities, promoting education, social welfare, and self-sustaining crafts inspired by humanist ideals. He helped organize local towns around specialized trades, many of which continue today, and chose Pátzcuaro as his episcopal seat, making it a cultural and religious center. The plaza, one of the largest in Mexico, reflects his lasting legacy as a protector of Indigenous peoples and a foundational leader in the spiritual and civic development of the area. Beautifully laid out park in centre of Pátzcuaro. Resturants and markets surround the square. Street musicians day and night. Spend an evening in and around the park as there is a great buzz and mix of the community.

One of the most beautiful Nativity scenes I've seen in Mexico. Beautifully adorned with animals and characters made of local palm leaves, lit up and surrounded by poinsettas. Music plays throughout thr day and night in anticipation of Christmas.

Great place for food and entertainment! The arts and crafts selection is amazing! This is such a great place to explore and enjoy with your family! Walking around the beautiful plaza and downtown is amazing! Especially on holidays and weekends! The merchants have a excellent selection of food and beverages. Very relaxing and the music is great!
