位于瓦基索区的卢滕贝湾湿地系统横跨98公顷，坐落在维多利亚湖默奇森湾北岸，被国际湿地公约列为重要保护区域。这片水域与主湖之间由一座漂浮的纸莎草岛自然分隔，成为非洲肺鱼和胡鲶等物种的关键繁殖地。每年迁徙季节，全球超过半数的白翅黑燕鸥在此栖息，湿地还庇护着多种全球濒危鸟类和特有慈鲷鱼类。超过100种蝴蝶在此繁衍生息，其中3种被列为稀有物种，使这里成为乌干达生物多样性最丰富的湿地之一。
这片湿地承担着重要的水文调节功能，能够过滤来自坎帕拉的城市径流和废水，有效保护默奇森湾的生态平衡。然而随着园艺种植扩张、工业开发和土地用途变更，湿地正面临日益严峻的威胁。距此仅5公里的乌干达野生动物教育中心与多家环保组织正合作推进保护计划。对于观鸟爱好者、生态研究者或关心湿地保护的旅行者而言，卢滕贝湾提供了一个观察城市发展与脆弱淡水生态系统相互作用的鲜活样本，其生态价值与保护现状同样值得关注。

Amazing variety of birds to see at the bay including migratory ones. Easy to get to. No more than an hour from Kampala. Get there early morning if you can and head out to see the birds with the wonderful local Bird guide called Farouk (256775036923). You might catch a glimpse of the monitor lizards too.
