Ecos de Uxmal

Probably my favorite archeological zone of our visit. The place is majestic and beautiful. Even though it was busy, it did not feel as crowded and overwhelming as Chichen Itza. There is a designated area for vendors where you can buy souvenirs and cold drinks, food etc. but inside the archeological zone it's just you and your fellow visitors. You can't climb up the main castle but there are other areas you're able to climb. The place is spectacular and we spent 2-3 hours despite the sun and humidity. Worth the visit if you're nearby, we did a daytrip from Mérida and it was worth it.

Uxmal is absolutely breathtaking and one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the Yucatán Peninsula. The architecture, intricate stone carvings and sheer scale of the ancient Maya structures are extraordinary. The Pyramid of the Magician is spectacular, but don't overlook the Governor's Palace and the Nunnery Quadrangle. The incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout the site make you appreciate just how advanced Maya civilization was. Unlike some archaeological sites where you rush from one attraction to another, Uxmal deserves time to explore and appreciate its history. I highly recommend arriving early to avoid the intense Yucatán heat, wearing comfortable shoes and bringing plenty of water. A knowledgeable guide can also make the experience much more meaningful. A true treasure of Mexican history and a must-visit when traveling through Yucatán. Give yourself at least a couple of hours to explore. It's absolutely worth the trip from Mérida!

Uxmal’s archaeological site is definitely stunning and worth the visit. Forget about the large crowds and vendors at Chichén Itzá — this site is made for enjoyment, away from the bustle and nestled in the middle of the tropical jungle. I highly suggest booking a guide for your visit; it will certainly enhance your experience.

Loved it. Amazing place, full of history and culture. The guides are very patient and they explain you not only about the ruins but also about the Mayan history and culture in the past and nowadays. A must see place for people who enjoy outdoor quiet adventures. There are smal shops, a restaurant, and a couple of food stalls where you can have a cold drink and eat some delicious sandwiches and tacos. The toilets are clean. They take cash and cards when you buy the tickets.

If you’re docking at the Progreso cruise port and looking for a majestic archaeological experience, I highly recommend taking a taxi to Uxmal. It was about a 1.5-hour drive each way, but it was well worth the trip to see such incredible sites without the heavy crowds we heard about at Chichen Itza. The atmosphere is much more peaceful, though the ticketing system is a bit of a mess; you have to purchase two separate tickets (state and federal) which cost around 620 pesos total. Definitely bring pesos in cash for the state portion to avoid any issues. It’s a fantastic alternative for anyone interested in history who prefers a more quiet and awe-inspiring setting.
