Booked with sian ka’an tour, it was so worth it a great experience and the guide was really nice! Seeing the animals in the natural habitat is just magical!

This was awesome! Grab a guide for the boat ride and floating river (coolest thing we did in Tulum) — we loved Cristian! He had an ice cream stand with his wife in front of the ruins. He took our stuff while we explored the ruins and then met us at the shore. The floating river is a must, it’s like a natural lazy river, can’t recommend it enough!

Sian Ka’an is an incredible protected area with so much natural beauty and a variety of flora and fauna. I took a full day tour here with Mexico Kan Eco-Tours from Tulum on 2026-01-26. We took a van along the beach road which then turned to a bumpy dirt road eventually stopping at the spot where our boat launched from. We boated through the wide open lagoons and narrow channels through mangroves and wetlands. We first saw two dolphin couples playing in the water and swimming around the boat, which was so cool! It was my first time seeing dolphins and to see them in their natural habitat was amazing. Next, we boated to “bird island” where a variety of different bird species like to hang out. We saw a gorgeous pink spoonbill, frigates, black vulture and pelicans in the trees on the island and flying overhead. After snorkelling in the ocean and seeing a huge tortoise, lots of fish and a barracuda, we enjoyed lunch in the small fishing town of Punta Allen. It was here that we saw a massive crocodile in the water on the shore where some boats were docked. It was so close and cool! From there, we boated back to the spot we started from. On the way back, our guide saw manatees and we stopped to watch them for a while. You could only see their noses popping up above water to get air but we did see the shape of a huge manatee swimming beside the boat! Super amazing to see this species. Lately, we saw another crocodile sleeping on the edge of the mangroves in one of the channels of water. It was amazing to explore even just a small portion of the Sian Ka’an Bioreserve and the sea creatures we got to see, as much of this protected area can only be accessed by scientists and biologists. Would definitely recommend visiting here for those who love nature and photographers. Mexico Kan was fantastic as they focus on eco-tourism and sustainability and had a lot of knowledge about the Bioreserve and the species who call it home.

I tried to explore here on a bicycle. I road 11km in if you can call it riding. Don't do it. Absolutely, terrible. The road is ridiculously bad. And there's nothing to see. A dirt private road you have to pay for. Private property lines both sides without a break so you can't go left to the sea or right to the lagoon. This is a travesty. I didn't have any tours planned and didn't want to. I thought unesco world heritage site, national Park... Should be lovely... Do yourself a favor. Unless your doing an activity that's paid it's a complete waste of time. There's nothing to see but Mexico's unkept, uncared for, waste of a beautiful area and private no trespassing signs and plastic garbage the floated to the shoreline. Zero upkeep, eco tower and museum locked up. One point to access the sea and nothing but garbage flotsam for miles. Thank goodness I didn't bring my family to ride, you can't call it that cuz there's unavoidable potholes on a dirt road for 45 minutes, 11km in a car would be 30 minutes. Shame on you. I only went 45 minutes in at the fastest pace that road would allow on a regular bike, riding alone as fast as possible. Another 20 minutes and they said I would get to the bridge but the hour was getting late and the security guard at Emily's said the mosquitos would eat me alive. Emily's was gracious enough to let me jump in the water for a quick dip without paying a fee. Thank you so much! So disappointed I don't have words for it. Why couldn't they make a few paths to the lagoon or the sea. Everything is private property and you would need to pay to see anything. Or fix the road and it would be fine just to ride. What a joke. What a waste of potentially beautiful land and sea.

An incredible place to experience nature in its purest form. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is full of diverse wildlife, pristine lagoons, and untouched beaches. A boat tour through the mangroves is highly recommended — you can often spot dolphins, turtles, and different bird species along the way. The water is crystal clear, and the scenery is breathtaking. It’s best to visit with a guided tour to fully appreciate the area’s ecological and cultural importance. A must-visit for nature lovers and photographers.
