You need a lot of cash as the ruins don’t take card, well worth the entrance fee, very very quiet and fabulous to look around. If you can, float down the canals as well. The cost is per boat of 6. So either gather a group of 6 to go together or pre book something with a set price before you go. I found the costs mentioned online a bit misleading as it’s not 1000 pesos a person. It’s only this if there is 6 of you. That being said the experience was so unique it’s worth it! One of the highlights of our holiday.

If you’re anywhere near Tulum, do not miss Muyil and the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve! This was one of those experiences that goes far beyond simply visiting another archaeological site—it feels like stepping into another world. 🌿✨ Walking through the ancient Muyil archaeological site, surrounded by the incredible jungle, gives you a real sense of the Mayan civilization and the relationship they had with this remarkable landscape. The ruins are beautiful, peaceful, and surrounded by nature, making the experience feel intimate and authentic rather than overly commercialized. And then there’s Sian Ka’an absolutely breathtaking! 🛶🌊🌴 The combination of pristine waterways, dense jungle, incredible wildlife, and the tranquility of the reserve makes you appreciate just how special this part of Mexico really is. Floating through the crystal-clear waters was unforgettable. There’s something incredibly peaceful about drifting through this ancient ecosystem, surrounded by nothing but nature. It’s the kind of experience that slows you down and lets you truly take in where you are. What made the experience even better was the feeling of being away from the crowds and connected to nature and history at the same time. Muyil tells the story of the past, while Sian Ka’an shows you the incredible natural world that continues to thrive here. Absolutely worth the visit!! If you love history, nature, adventure, and authentic Mexican experiences, put Muyil and Sian Ka’an high on your list. This is Mexico at its most beautiful, wild, and unforgettable. 🇲🇽❤️ One of our favorite experiences yet! 🌿🛶☀️

It's a small site however it is an awesome experience and you aren't faced with a gauntlet of vendors and extra fees as you will at Chicen Itza and Coba. Having written that, there is an extra fee to walk the trail to the lagoon and in my opinion isn't worth it. There are two observation towers that you can't access and you can't go in the water when you get to the lagoon. The walk is along a boardwalk and is kind of cool but not worth the extra 50 pesos.

This is a wonderful stop and so close to Tulum. The grounds are well cared for. We also took a boat out to the lagoon for 1,000 pesos per person. It’s well worth it. We really enjoyed floating with the current through the channel. The current doesn’t look like much but it carries you along at a pretty good pace. The water was perfect. An extremely enjoyable experience. I highly recommend it and will bring more friends when they come to visit me in Tulum.

Have been here multiple times over 25 years. Amazed by the recent upgrades. The new facilities are great. They have made new paths that make the experience very park like. We have been here when it was a roadside attraction that was not always manned. Parked under trees and wandered in without any input or management. The new facility’s are great. Restrooms a small history room limited refreshments and recently restorations really made this visit a highlight of our trip.
