Surprised to see a ticket price. We have never experienced this . It is the third highest point in North America. Challenging to get to the base camp at 14,000 feet but can be seen from many miles away. Our bed and breakfast "Tropical World" near Fortin de las Flores has beautiful view and we are about 20 miles away as the crow flies. Cloud covered the majority of time. Reminds you of Mt Fuji in Japan, but it is even higher and snow covered year round with more snow in the summer than in the winter due to the rainy season at that time. Takes your breath away (literally) with the high altitude, definitely not for first time mountain climbers, but the drive getting up to the base camp is spectacular. Bring treats as many children along the way appreciate .

Beautiful mountain. With its summit resting at 18,491 feet / 5,636 meters, Pico de Orizaba is the highest point in all of México. Summiting this volcano is a considerable challenge, one that will give you perspective into your own capabilities and will build confidence to reach higher summits. Climbers should have basic snow and ice-climbing skills and should be comfortable with glacier travel, which includes moving in a rope team, self arrest, and basic crevasse rescue. Basic knowledge and experience would be required for objectives with some rock climbing. It's magical experiance.

6 hours up, 3.5 hours down. Went with an Explore-Share 3Summits guide: Gilgamesh who did a good job. Of the two groups that set out for peak that day only ours made it, in discussions with locals, they estimate a 40% rate of success.

Beautiful alpine climb, great views from the summit. Beware of ice on the glacier and crevasses.

Without a doubt , camping here has been one of the highlights of my whole life, beautiful, rugged, ever-changing, this national park has a special kind of magic for the seeker of the extreme and the wild at heart.
