Google review summary has done a good job. Just contribute more pictures.

A very sweet convent which really enlightens the town . It is completely free except for the museum but we couldn’t visit it because it was closed for lunch .

Very nice and historic!!It’s a colonial city where you can visit one of the oldest convents in the Yucatán Peninsula and the American continent. It’s a nice spot to visit for a while, though there’s always some construction going on. At the church, you can appreciate and take great photos. In general, a sunset in Izamal is quite nice, especially when visiting the convent—it’s very pleasant. It’s not overly touristy, but you can walk around and understand how things worked back then. It’s also worth mentioning that this convent was built on top of a Mayan city that the Spanish destroyed.

The Convento de San Antonio de Padua in Izamal is one of the most striking and historic landmarks in the Yucatán. Built in the 16th century by the Spanish Franciscans on top of a former Mayan pyramid, the convent beautifully reflects the layered history of the region where Mayan and colonial cultures meet. What immediately stands out is the massive atrium surrounded by its famous 75 yellow arches, said to be one of the largest enclosed atriums in the world. The entire complex is painted in Izamal’s signature golden yellow, creating a stunning contrast against the blue Yucatán sky and making it one of the most photogenic places in the town. Walking through the courtyard and inside the church feels peaceful and timeless. The convent also holds special significance as it was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1993, an event commemorated inside the complex. Located in the heart of Izamal, this beautiful convent is a must-visit for anyone exploring the “Yellow City.” Its history, architecture, and serene atmosphere make it one of the most memorable stops in the Yucatán.

Located in the heart of the "Yellow City," this Franciscan convent is a stunning example of colonial architecture and a centerpiece of Izamal. I spent some time walking through its vast atrium and exploring the corridors, taking in the unique yellow and white details that define the entire town. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and solemn; it is well-maintained and provides a great sense of the history and the blending of Mayan and Spanish cultures. Its atrium is one of the largest closed courtyards in the world, and the view from the arches looking out into the town is one of the best photo opportunities in Yucatan.
