The museum is filled with a lot of great historical artifacts, photographs, paintings and other interesting materials about the history of Guanajuato and Mexico. The disappointing part was that the object labels were only in Spanish, and as someone that doesn’t speak or read the language, I missed out on the context and significance of the many important works. I know I’m in Mexico but usually larger museums that want to attract foreign tourists will also include English, since it’s the international language. I hope this wonderful museum will do that someday.

Not really a place for foreign tourists... It's almost entirely textual, and all the texts are in Spanish. No authentic exhibits, barely any art besides a couple of murals, so the visit here mostly consists of moving from board to board and using Google translate on them. The history of Mexico is indeed displayed in a very detailed manner here, but I could just read history on Wikipedia and it would be easier and have a similar effect... I did appreciate the amount of respect given to national heroes here. Learning about their stories was interesting and gave me some new perspectives about this country.

A great place to know more, not only about Guanajuato's history, but Mexican in general. The only reason I am giving 4 starts instead of 5 is because the information is only in Spanish and is difficult for a tourist to understand anything.

I highly recommend visiting this historic and emblematic site, which holds great significance in Mexico’s history. In the past, this space was used as a warehouse for seeds and grains, and today, it serves as a venue for cultural events and exhibitions. Walking through its halls, you can truly imagine the feat of El Pípila and reflect on the importance of this place in the country’s past. The entrance fee is $75 MXN (approximately $4 USD), and the visit can take 2-3 hours, depending on how much time you spend reading and exploring the exhibits. The central courtyard is beautiful, and the different rooms provide a well-organized overview of Mexico’s history, from pre-Hispanic times to the Revolution. There are also temporary exhibitions that complement the experience, such as the Alebrije room (which is filled with alebrijes made by people who attend the workshop offered there) and exhibits on Zapotec culture. If you can, I recommend finding a guide to accompany you, as there are no official guides inside. While the staff can offer some information, having a guide makes the experience much richer. The site is clean and well-maintained, but accessibility is limited. Students with a valid ID can enter for free, and if you want to take photos inside, there is an additional fee, even for cell phones. This place is a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts, as it offers a deep and structured insight into Mexico’s past—one that continues to shape the country today.

Wow, this museum took me 3 hours to fully experience. Yes, I had to read slowly and translate the Spanish into English pero, there is just a lot to see if you really want to take your time to explore. The building is huge, historic and beautiful in some aspects despite the bloodshed and misery that has occurred here in the past. A must see when in Guanajuato City. If you have the time you have to experience this museum.
