优雅火山口：皮纳卡特荒漠中的巨型玛尔火山口
墨西哥索诺拉州的皮纳卡特生物圈保护区里，优雅火山口（El Elegante Crater）是整片火山群里最大的一个。直径约1400至1500米，深140至250米，坑壁近乎垂直。从停车场走几步就能站到坑缘，脚下是一个几乎正圆的巨大凹陷。门票225比索， crater 路线每天9点开放，14点停止进入，去晚了就只能在门外看荒漠。
火山口本身：它到底长什么样
一个教科书式的玛尔火山口
优雅火山口属于玛尔（maar）类型。它不是火山喷发堆出来的锥体，而是岩浆遇到地下水后产生蒸汽爆炸，把地表炸开一个坑。坑缘没有明显的火山锥，站在远处看，荒漠里只是微微隆起一道矮坡。
真正走到边缘才会发现它有多大。坑口边缘周长大约5公里，内壁陡峭，露出层层火山灰和熔岩混合的剖面。坑底平坦，长满耐旱植物。这种地形在皮纳卡特火山群里不止一个，但优雅火山口是规模最大、形状最接近圆形的一个。
NASA 曾在1960年代末把宇航员送到这一带训练，原因是地貌像月球表面。这个说法在当地被反复提起，站在坑缘往下看，确实有一种踩在地球之外的感觉。
坑缘步道怎么走
停车场就在坑缘附近，下车后步行几十米就能到观景点。沿坑缘有一条约2公里的往返步道，走完大约1小时。路面是碎石和火山土，没有遮阴，坡度不大但凹凸不平。
步道有3处比较开阔的观景位置，可以拍到坑壁的层次和坑底的植被。如果想绕整圈，全程约5公里，路面标记不算清晰，有几段需要踩着火山岩通过。普通游客走到第一个或第二个观景点就足够。
什么时间去光线最好
清晨和傍晚的侧光最能打出坑壁的层次。正午阳光直射坑底，阴影消失，火山口的立体感会打折扣。保护区14点停止进入 crater 路线，所以下午的光线要算好时间才能赶上。
这里也是观星点。保护区地处偏远，光污染极低，夜间银河清晰可见。但 crater 路线不开放夜间通行，想拍星空需要参加有资质的旅行社组织的露营团，在指定营地过夜。
怎么去：从佩尼亚斯科港出发的路线
入口和登记点
主入口在联邦8号公路52公里处，位于佩尼亚斯科港（Puerto Peñasco）和索诺伊塔（Sonoyta）之间。路边有生物站（Estación Biológica），所有自驾游客必须在这里登记、交费、领手环和地图。
从佩尼亚斯科港市区到生物站大约30分钟车程。登记之后继续沿保护区土路行驶，到优雅火山口约27公里，车程40到45分钟。路面是压实的土路，前段有深沙，普通轿车勉强能过但很颠，高底盘车更稳妥。雨后路面可能被冲毁，保护区会临时关闭 crater 路线，出发前最好向生物站确认路况。
没有公共交通
佩尼亚斯科港没有班车进入保护区。要么自驾，要么包车，要么参加当地旅行社的一日团。旅行社的团通常包含交通、向导和门票，从佩尼亚斯科港出发的半日团大约4到5小时。
从美国亚利桑那州过来，最近的边境口岸是卢克维尔（Lukeville）—索诺伊塔，过关后沿8号公路向南约50公里即到生物站。从凤凰城开车过来大约3.5小时。
费用怎么算
外国游客门票225比索每人每天，墨西哥本国游客半价115比索。学生和教师凭证件打75折，55比索。12岁以下儿童、退休人员、残障人士免票。交费后领手环，全程佩戴。
除了 CONANP 的门票，进入 crater 路线还要经过两个 ejido（村社）的土地，每个 ejido 各收100比索。加上门票，外国游客自驾一趟的准入成本大约425比索每人。这笔钱在生物站和路线上的检查点分次收取，带够现金。
实用信息：开放时间、装备和周边
开放时间和进入限制
生物站每天9点到17点开放登记和收费。crater 路线的进入时间是9点到14点，14点之后闸口关闭，目的是保证所有车辆在天黑前驶出。走完 crater 环线（含优雅火山口、特科洛特营地和科罗拉多火山口）大约需要3到5小时。
舒克托阿克游客中心（Schuk Toak）和沙丘区域的开放时间是周四到周日9点到17点，和 crater 路线分开管理。周一去的话游客中心可能不开，但生物站和 crater 路线每天运行。
带什么、穿什么
荒漠里没有补给点。每人至少带3升水，夏天要带5升以上。防晒帽、长袖、防晒霜是标配。鞋子选厚底运动鞋或徒步鞋，火山岩路面会磨鞋底。
11月到3月是最舒服的季节，白天20到28摄氏度，夜间降到10度左右。4月开始升温，5到9月白天经常超过40度，crater 路线在极端高温时可能缩短开放时间。春季雨后荒漠会短暂开花，是拍照的好时机，但路面也最容易受损。
周边怎么组合
从佩尼亚斯科港出发，可以把优雅火山口和沙丘放在同一天。上午走 crater 路线，下午回游客中心登记去沙丘。沙丘区域16点停止进入，时间要卡紧。
如果从索诺伊塔方向过来，可以顺路在索诺伊塔吃午饭再进保护区。佩尼亚斯科港的鱼市和海鲜餐馆集中在老港一带，回程时补给方便。
常见问题
优雅火山口适合带小孩或老人去吗？
到坑缘观景点只需步行几十米，路面平整度一般但距离很短，老人和小孩都能到。沿坑缘的2公里步道有碎石和起伏，推婴儿车不方便。12岁以下儿童免门票，家庭出行成本不高。
不开四驱车能进 crater 路线吗？
可以。保护区官方要求是高底盘车辆，普通轿车在干燥天气下也能通过，但前段深沙路段容易托底。雨后路面冲毁时，保护区可能只允许四驱车进入，出发前在生物站确认当天路况。
游览优雅火山口需要多长时间？
从生物站登记到返回，走完 crater 环线含主要停靠点大约3到5小时。只去优雅火山口、不走完整环线的话，从佩尼亚斯科港出发往返约3小时。想在坑缘多走一段步道，再加1小时。

Visited El Elegante Crater near Puerto Peñasco a volcanic crater so otherworldly that NASA used the area for astronaut training. Incredible views and total silence. A must-see if you’re in Sonora.
When you pay at the gate, the guy tells you that there "might" be someone who stops you for additional "charges", and that you have to pay for them as well. Of course he knows that, as he was the one letting them in to rob you later. Shortly after the gate, there was a road block with two older individuals demanding money, perhaps they were the parents of the young guy at the office. Just be aware, as it is not pleasant to get robbed in such an isolated area. Apart from that, while the park was worth it, the road is horrible (the fillings in your teeth will fall out), especially the section that exists towards the North highway (not coming back in the loop to the same entrance). The entire area is extremely isolated and we met just one other car in nearly 2 hours (in January, perhaps a low season); so if you get a flat tire or car trouble, you may walk for miles and miles in scorching heat. Don't hope for a cell signal either, you are practically on the moon.
This crater is perhaps the most known and visited of the more than 100 craters found in the Pinacate Biosphere reserve. Although not the largest, its 1600 meters (one mile) in diameter and 5 kilometers around together with a depth of around 220 meters deep, makes it a quite impressive natural wonder to enjoy. To visit, the entrance to the reserve is half an hour drive north of Puerto Peñasco. At the station the visitors must register and pay a small entry fee. From the entrance, it is a slow 45 minute drive to the crater. The road is not paved but it is well maintained. Any car can drive around the well signaled roads without any danger of getting stuck. The road to the Elegante crater ends in a parking spot where you may leave your vehicle. From there it is a 30 meters walk to the rim. This amazing formation was created more than 100,000 years ago when underground water reservoirs got in contact with lava, thus causing the water to boil and as vapor expanded, in a tremendous explosion upwards the steam found its way out leaving that huge hole on the ground, at ground level.
Great and beautiful place to know and of course camping
It wasn't what I expected. You must appreciate nature to enjoy. It was very lonely and scary. We drove for miles deep into the desert,no gas,no water,no restrooms no shade ANYWHERE. Once you enter it's really hard to turn back as the sand and volcanic ash makes it almost impossible unless you have 4 wheel drive. We drove back on a one way road to avoid the 3hrs drive to the only exit. Of course that wasn't a problem because no signs if life anywhere for miles. Also to cell tower.
