距离坦桑尼亚乞力马扎罗区莫西镇东南方向仅3公里，隐藏着一片珍贵的城市绿肺——劳森林保护区。这片占地约5.8平方公里的森林海拔在730至765米之间，其独特之处在于它是由地下水滋养的稀有城市森林。走进保护区，你会被其丰富的本土生态所吸引：超过70种原生树木在此生长，其中包括树龄近200年、被当地人视为神圣的非洲柚木（African teak / Milicia excelsa），以及姆苏木（Oxystigma msoo）和斯温氏紫檀（Lovoa swynnertonii）等特有树种。这里也是野生动物的乐园，黑白疣猴和蓝猴在林间跳跃，小巧的柯氏犬羚（Kirk's dik-dik）在灌木丛中穿行，更有种类繁多的蝴蝶、鸟类、爬行动物和两栖动物栖息其中。
劳森林的历史可追溯至20世纪初德国殖民时期，并在1950年代正式被划定为保护区。它对莫西镇及周边地区的影响远不止于生物多样性。这片森林如同一个天然的空调系统，科学观测证实其能将莫西镇的气温降低2至4摄氏度，显著改善了当地的小气候。森林孕育的天然泉水更是下游水稻种植的重要水源，维系着周边的农业生产。

Beautiful forest walk

A beautiful and eventful walk through the forest. We saw loads of monkeys and butterflies. The milk spring water was definitely a highlight. We went without a guide, we really enjoyed walking on our own. You could take a guide with you for extra information on the flora and fauna, but for us it would be a little too expensive all combined. You do however have to write a disclaimer that you are your own responsibility in the forest.
